the eyes have it

Natalie is in kindergarten this year. We've been working on learning to read. It hasn't been going overly well. But I did finally realize that at least part of the problem was that she couldn't quite see those letters on the page. When I would ask her about a particular sound, she'd say some random thing. "No, look at the page," I'd encourage her. And suddenly she'd have the book practically up to her nose to see just what that letter on the page actually was.

So Nelson took her to the eye doctor. Sure enough, the poor kid has quite the astigmatism.

She comes by it honestly. Every time I go to an eye doctor, I have to sit through hearing about just how unusually strong my astigmatism is. Doctors tend to go on and on about it. Apparently Natalie's is about as bad.

Genetics can really stink sometimes.

Making glasses astigmatism that strong means a long wait. But today we were finally able to pick them up. She's extremely excited about them. She's also excited about being able to see the computer and the letters in books more clearly. I'm pretty excited about that too.

more stuff Sarah inherited from me

Okay, yesterday I posted the "look alike" meter, and it showed that I DID contribute to Sarah's genetic make-up. :) I have also shared in a previous post that Sarah inherited my guacamole addiction as well. Today, another food preference that she got from me came up.

For reasons that I won't go into right now, Nelson is bringing home supper tonight. Sarah requested that he stop by Captain D's. Those who know Nelson know he is NOT a seafood fan. He orders chicken when he eat at Captain D's. Sarah, however, asked for...popcorn shrimp! She grinned in delight when Nelson assured her that he would indeed bring home the shrimp. She said excitedly, "It's yummy!" :)

Sarah is begging me to let her type so I am turning over the keyboard to her now so she can share whatever it is she has to say. :) (She also wants her OWN post, so hang on just a second!). :-p

guacamole!

Those who know me well know my love for guacamole. I'm practically addicted to the stuff. :) And apparently this addiction is coded into my DNA! Last night I cooked tacos for supper. We had leftovers today. As a special treat for the leftovers, Nelson took a few dollars that we had been given by my parents and headed to the store for some of my "drug of choice." Well, I thoroughly enjoyed my reheated taco with the guacamole. :) YUM!

But I wasn't the only one who enjoyed it! The guacamole comes in a plastic pouch, and I slice off a corner so that I can squeeze it out--either into a bowl, or onto a taco or whatever. Well, I left the pouch on the table while I went back to the kitchen for something. When I returned, I found Sarah with the pouch. She had it in her mouth and was sucking the guacamole out through the slit! Just straight guac--and I thought I was the junkie! Lol. :)
